Why go

The trip starts with Tokyo's museums, neighborhoods and food, then heads north by train to Matsushima's bay and Zuiganji temple. In Aomori, Wa Rasse shows how the Nebuta floats are made, and the Sannai-Maruyama site goes back to the ancient Jōmon era. Hirosaki ends the trip with castle-town history, Neputa craft and Tsugaru music.

  • Decide each night based on crowds, darkness, long standing and the late walk out
  • Follow JMA weather, typhoon and heat alerts, and head indoors when they call for it
  • Free viewing, paid seats and dancing as a haneto are separate choices. You don't need to dance to enjoy it.
