For two weeks in February, the setting sun can light Horsetail Fall so it glows like molten lava.
For a short window in mid-to-late February, the low evening sun strikes Horsetail Fall on El Capitan at just the right angle to set the water aglow, an ephemeral firefall. It only works if the fall is flowing and the western horizon is clear, so it is far from guaranteed.
