- The Hotel Zone and Downtown Cancun are different worlds - stay in the Zone for beach, eat in Downtown for real prices.
- Tulum and Chichen Itza are both doable as long day trips; book the ruins early to beat both the heat and the tour buses.
- Tap water isn't potable - bottled or filtered only, including for brushing teeth.
