The lay of the landCasablanca is less a destination than a doorway (most itineraries touch down here and head straight for Marrakech, Fes, or Chefchaouen), but the Hassan II Mosque alone justifies a stop. What to see

Mohammed V Square, The administrative heart of French colonial Casablanca, this grand square is ringed by early 20th-century Mauresque-style government buildings and centered on a large fountain where flocks of pigeons gather.

Old Medina, Smaller and less touristy than Marrakech's, Casablanca's old medina is a maze of narrow lanes near the port packed with textile stalls, spice shops, and cafes that predate the city's modern French-built downtown.

Rick's Café, Opened in 2004 by a former American diplomat, this restaurant and piano bar recreates the fictional gin joint from the 1942 film Casablanca, right down to the arched windows and a pianist who'll play "As Time Goes By" on request.

Corniche Ain Diab, This palm-lined seaside boulevard west of downtown is where Casablanca comes to walk, dine, and swim, its beach clubs and cafes stretching along the Atlantic for several miles.
