Orlando exists, in its modern form, because Walt Disney bought up cheap swampland in the 1960s, and everything since has been built to serve the tourism economy that followed. Disney World and Universal Orlando are the headline draws, but the city has quietly built out one of the country's densest clusters of family entertainment around them: water parks, mini golf, dinner shows, an entire economy of things to do between park days. It's not a subtle city, but it delivers exactly what it says on the ticket.
