A stage that floats on Lake Constance.
The Bregenz Festival's Seebühne is a stage built out into Lake Constance itself, audience on the shore, nothing overhead. Verdi's La Traviata premieres there for the first time in 2026, the festival's 80th, across roughly 26 performances and 175,000 tickets. The stage has had four different sets since the festival began in 1946, one famous enough to star in a James Bond film: Quantum of Solace filmed its opera chase scene here in 2008. This is one of the hardest opera tickets in Europe by reputation; the 2026 season went on sale the previous September, and popular dates move fast. The show goes on in the rain, the call is made just before curtain, so dress for the lake, not the forecast.
